When in Rome: Roman sandals

Now that summer is in full swing most of us are wearing sandals and open toe shoes practically 24/7. One of the official shoes of summer is one of this year’s hot fashion trends, roman sandals. Roman sandals could be called a classic. As the name implies roman sandals have been around the fashion block a few times and this sandal is always a stylish summer shoe option.

A roman sandal, for those of you who aren’t familiar, "is a sandal held to the foot by a vamp composed of a series of equally spaced buckled straps". This basic concept is a staple in the design but over the years designers have come up with what seems like an endless array of color combos, textile and height variations for this popular summer shoe. Roman sandals are worn by both men and women, but like lots of fashion items, we gals get the better end of the stick when it comes to having more variety of styles.

Along with letting our toes breathe, roman sandals are a comfortable and versatile summer shoe option. Roman sandals look great with pretty summer dresses, shorts and long trousers. Brown and black leather are traditional textiles and color for this shoe, but this sandal looks great in practically any color, height and textile from flats to stacked heels. If you decide to add a pair of roman sandals to your wardrobe, you may want to go with a traditional style if you tend to dress more casual or conservative. In my humble opinion flat styles work best for daytime and a high heel or gladiator style sandal is more of a nighttime summer shoe. I personally am not a big fan of sandals, especially flat styles, but I have to admit I have seen some stunning and quite creative styles including, a pair of gold gladiator sandals for men.
