I love heels and ornate shoes like the rest of you, but since I often have to forfeit walking to wear them, I am always on the prowl for interesting flats. This season I feel like the fashion trend fairies answered my prayers. One of the cool flat shoes for this season is the brogue shoe, often called an oxford, spectator or wingtip shoe.
These are comfortable and go well with the borrowed from the boys look that has been hot since last fall. I haven’t decided if I am going to splurge on a pair of the big names like Michael Kors, or Robert Clergerie, go two toned like Sam Edelman or perhaps stick with my basic chunky style and go Katherine Hepburn in brown by Frye or Modern Vintage.
Traditional brogues are low-heeled, heavy leather. They are often called wingtips because of the winglike overlay at the toe that is adorned with pinking and perforation. Look for brogues today in round and pointy toes, high heeled, platforms, dressy to casual.
A fun change and great for early spring,
